How much abuse the gearbox can take and still last well

The engine is a modern one that is not as strong in the bottom end etc as older equipment
The box is typically mazda and will die at a moments notice or by having a pucked disk waved at it ;-)

Having said that, how much power etc do you need to enjoy your car? My standard is :

100hp per 1000kg, disk brakes on all four corners, 2 camshafts per bank of cylinders, >= 15" wheels, EFI.

Beyond that is a bonus :-)

EVO's will run 13.0 with zero mods.
what the hell makes an evo so fast? 4 cyl... they are kinda boxy ... 4 doors ... I dont get it ...
