I dont personally know the PSE Deerhunter.
However, the price is such that it would not be a grave error if it turns out crap.
Also, it is a better idea to start out cheaper and see what you like/dislike about the bow. That way, when you really get "into" the sport, you will want to upgrade and then you will know exactly what you want and why.
I think you are doing this right... for what it's worth.
