From the picture, yes it looks like your breather pipes are the wrong way round at the inlet manifold end..

Was the loom already in the car ? just wondering why the plugs are cut off ? in that pic you have 2 main water temps and your dash water temp guage sender. The dash sender wire is a simple single wire onto a brass sensor. Then you have a green and a black water sensor. One is for the fan (black) and one is for the ECU (Green). If the ECU is looking for a bacl sensor input and does not get one, it will fire in the fan as soon as the engine starts for safety.

From the picture, and looking at the inlet manifold, i would say you have a std 2.5 litre v6.. it might be that the previous owner used a std inlet manifold.. so .. look through no.4 and 6 inlet runners at the side of the rear head and you will see a stamp.. either KL-1A1 or KL31-1A1 ..

We shall see you at japfest, and get sorted what we can... You should hopefully notice the smoke settles down after putting those breather pipes on the right way around ..
