Unfortunately, with the st24 and st220's the body kit and alloys dont mask the fact that underneath its just a mondeo. Its a similar story with other repmobiles that are made to look sporty to attract the "if I drive a sporty car does that make me young still?" over 30's guy.

Vauxhall tried it with the Vectra Supertouring and got a similar result. The car is designed to run a 1.8/2.0 engine under 150bhp so sticking 200+ in it and adding a few bolt on mods doesnt suddenly turn it into a touring car.

A fast car needs to be designed to go fast to start with, there are a few exceptions, 1 of which my friend is considering when he sells his Cavalibra Turbo, which is an Accord type R, which doesnt seem to have the same stigma attached as other euroboxes and this is reflected in the prices.

Personally, there isnt much that could prize an mx6 out of my hands (other than the w**kers that stole mine) but eventually I would find myself wanting more power/performance and with the limitations the 6 has at gaining bhp I would have to venture into the turbo market. Main choice would be a Gen 3 RX7 or Skyline R33 if the budget would stretch, but the kids need to leave home before that happens.

On the whole, I would say the mx6 is the best value for money sports car out there at the moment. VW Corrados look too 90's now and have lost their exotic appeal but VR6 prices are still double that of a good mx6. Calibra's are now laughed at as mint condition, unmodified ones dont exist and the prices reflect this (little more than a mk3 cavalier).

Stick with the 6, spend the £ and make it special again.
