You get about the same mileage from CNG, there are lots of fill stations in Utah that support it and it costs about $0.60/gallon.
The main problem with it is that the tanks take up a lot of space. But a tank that will fit inside a tool box case for a truck bed will get me about 150 miles between fills and I can always switch to gas at the push of a button.
If I want to fill the entire truck bed with tanks I can get about 400 miles between fill ups.
someone needs to start getting inventive and design these trucks around those tanks. A truck bed full of gas cylinders is just more weight and defeats the purpose of a truck bed.

I work on many different types of semi trailers, and recently ive been seeing many come out with hydraulic tanks, air tanks and even secondary fuel tanks built into the frame rails. Either structurally (cross members) or the actual frame rails. Its pretty neat. They get ran pretty hard and take much more abuse then a car ever would.. and ive never seen anything crack or leak yet.
