your last statement about more mpg at reduced power makes no sense.

in order to maintain velocity and accelerate the engine must burn a certain amount of fuel, AC compressors always draw a significant amount of power and so either:

a) reduced % of power goes to the wheels and you slow down or

b) burn more fuel to maintain speed and also power to the aircon


same in the case of putting the windows down, but the effect is MUCH smaller. unless youre driving with all windows fully down
