Paint almost always looks like ass after a month or two. I'm gonna have to opt out on this idea.
Some helpful hints for you though would be to sand / bead blast valve covers prior to the project to eliminate down time. If you still must paint then use paint however personally powder coating is very durable, but a tad costly. You could arrange a bulk powder coat project with spare parts that are all sand blasted.. IE valve covers, intake manifolds, calipers, rotor hats, rims, windshield wiper arms etc... if it is steel or aluminum you can powder coat it.
If you plan to do valve covers you also would want a valve cover gasket kit ($85-$120) for the full set with all grommets. If you go as far as this you might as well do the timing belt, tensioner, pulleys, pull cams to install the TSB friction gear updated part, AC and power steering belt pulleys can have new bearings pressed in, rebuild HLA's... LOL
I can think of many things better to replace over painting. For me i have done it all... I need nothing other than my built motor to get done.
