How to Replace an Angel Eye Halo LED

Well, recently one of my halo ring leds went out in my angel eyes and so, I went to radio shack to buy a replacement one. They only have a few to choose from. Here is the selection of Radio Shack leds to choose from. You can choose what you like.

Ok, now to do this you will need a few items and tools:

  • Four Radio Shack leds
  • Needlenose pliers
  • Clear epoxy
  • Black spray paint or black permanent marker
  • Electrical tape
  • Drill with a 13/64 or 7/32 bit (optional)
  • Socket wrench with a 10mm and 14 mm sockets
Step one:
  • Unplug the lights and take the headlight assembly out.
  • Unscrew the three wing nuts to get one of the pods out.
  • Get your needlnose pliers and pull the wires out of the assembly. Don't be afraid..lol...
  • Now, take your needlenose pliers and BREAK the little black round housing...dont be afraid...hehe
  • Now, you will have to break it off and play with it until you get it to look like this:
  • After you do this you will want to grab what is left of the wire and pull out the old leds. There are two of them and they look like this:
  • The longer one is the new led...once you get them out...it may take some fiddling with to get them out because they are glued in there, take the drill and make the hole a bit bigger. It is just and option, but will make the led slide in a little easier.
  • Now just slide the new led in the hole
  • Now you will need to use the epoxy. Make sure you get some that is clear. I bought the 60 second stuff. just put a dab of each side on an index card mix it up and make sure you cover it all the way around the led. you want a good seal.
  • Now you have to let it dry. After it dries, either get a black permenant marker or some black spray paint and paint over the clear epoxy. The spray paint works better.
  • Now you will need to take about an inch plastic off the wires
  • take the wires and headlight pod to the car and plug the wires in to the connector. Then just touch the wires with the led to find out how they go so it lights up.
  • Then wrap either the red or the black around each of the led wires and tape them up like this:
  • Now just connect the pod back up to the housing and plug the lights back in and Woot Woot! you're done.
  • With just the running lights on
  • Here is what the difference in the colors are...
If you have any questions, you can pm me.

Keep in mind that the blue leds may not be legal in your state..please check with your local state patrol to see whether or not it is legal.
