How To: Climate Control into DIN
As long as you have a file and a dremel you are all set.
1) Remove the Dash Panel Remove the 3 screws holding the dash panel and then pull it out slowly. (Locations for clips) 2) Remove the Climate Control. There are 2 screws holding the climate control in. Unscrew it and unplug the 3 wire plugs in the back of the climate control. 3) Modify The Climate Control Bust Out The Dremel! First flatten and cut the 2 peices sticking out but leave a little because this will work as a stopper. (The screws were originally here.) Next, I dremeled all 4 corners to give it a round look to match the dash panel. After, I dremeled some plastic off the 2 sides to make it fit better into the dash. CAUTION: If you remove too much you will break into the casing of the cliamte control or you will see a small gap when you put it all together . (I have a small gap, hard to see in the picture but you can notice it only from the drivers seat.) 4) Modify the Dash Panel Using a file, smoothen out the DIN Border on the dash panel. You can't really see it but if you run your finger along the edge you can feel it. Do this for all four sides. (Pictures: 1 2) On the back of the dash panel we will make 2 grooves for the two small peices sticking off the climate control. This will create a nice close finish so the buttons won't seem pushed back compared to everything else and it will prevent the climate control from coming forward. (Pictures: 1 2) 5) Dremel the Hell out of the DIN Slot On the 2 sides, dremel all the plastic away until the front is flush with the piece of plastic right behind it. Even doing this makes a tight fit for the climate control. (Pictures: Overview 1 2) Now dremel the top and bottom of the DIN slot. You don't need to dremel too much if you want a tight fit. If you remove too much (like I did) you will be able to tilt the climate control. (Picture: 1) 6) Modify The Climate Control Since a dremel is round and you can't get right angle corners I slightly rounded the edges on the climate control. Only a very little bit on the four edges since the plastic is thin. (Pictures: 1 2) 7) Install The Climate Control Make sure your climate control fits into the slot. Do any few modifications needed and the pull down the climate control wires, plug them in and slide in the climate control. Put the dash over it and you are done. (Pictures: 1 2 3) Tilt: You can tilt the Climate Control a very little bit. If you don't want this then you will need to drill/install a bolt from the side to stop the climate control from tilting. I have to push pretty hard to make it tilt so I didn't bother doing this. (Pictures: Original - Tilted - Soon to be added) DASH COMPLETED (will be added in the future |

It's a well-known survival tip that you should always carry around a length of ethernet or fibre cable when traveling in wilderness areas. If you get hopelessly lost, bury it. Then you can ask the backhoe operator for directions when he cuts through it.
