I've noticed my trunk was leaking, and other people have had the same problem. The first place it may be leaking from are the bolt holes where the spoiler mounts. Put a few sheets of newspaper in your trunk and pour water over the spoiler and where it mounts to the trunk. If it is leaking from here, you will see it drip onto the newspaper in a few minutes. If the newspaper is wet towards the back of the car, then you have the same problem I had.
Pour water right here, where it's nice and dirty
What you should see is that most of the water leaks out under the taillight, but not all of it. Some goes into the trunk, through this hole. I decided to make this FAQ after I plugged it up, my bad.
The tube is pointing to where the hole is. You'll see water leaking out of it when you pour it at the side of the trunk. I used RTV sealant to seal up the hole, caulk or any kind of silicone will work just as well.

can this get moved to the maintenance/repair section?

My trunk leak was in a different place...when I first got the car...i drove it around for about a month and then one day i opened the trunk and took a look inside the spare tire well and the tire was sitting in a pool of water (so much so i used a small shop vac to get the water out).
I went to Mazda to see if they could find the leak, but they couldent (they didnt charge me) they said a "leak specialist" could come look at it, but it was gonna cost a lot, so i said [fizzle] that...and I tried to find the leak on my own. So i got inside the trunk, and had my dad spray the car with water for a while. The leak was coming from where you open the trunk...i sealed it off with some silicone and haven’t had any problems since...ill try to post pictures of where im talking about to make it more clear.
^^Thats where i put the silicone, and no water since ^^
Hope this helps someone

Peviously i had the same problem with my 323 and had conducted many water tests in an effort to find a conclusion to the leaky trunk. After one tremendiously rainy day not only was the spare tire fludded, but a good portion of the car.The same thing happen when i first purchased my mx-6. Simply head down to Candian-tire = Crappy tire or "Parts Store"anyways Get yourself some "Form-a-gasket" .Remove your trunk gasket and commence to seal the perimeter of what would be under the gasket . Also make sure you rotate the gasket to over come previous low spots In the Gasket
Mine leaks as well - until I get the time to find it (based on above, there are several places it can leak) I have just unplugged the drain rubber in the well.
That way, when it rains, it's wet - when it's dry, it's dry...

yea, i found a drain plug in my 626 but after it drained there was still a thin layer of water so i took a hammer and a small screwdriver and poked small holes at 12, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock around the spare tire well....thats just temporary until i can find the leak....i think its in the tail lights, im just not sure how to seal it.....

Exec 1: OK, we've scrapped the plans for a turbocharger in the 2nd generation MX6s, not enough time to plan it out before the launch.
Exec 2: Damn it, oh well. At least we're launching a problem free car!
Exec 1: Umm, that isn't entirely accurate, there is one small problem.
Exec 2: What is it, Makato?
Exec 1: All of the cars are coming back from the rain test with water in the trunk, we can't seem to find out where it's coming from, it's uncanny.
Exec 2: Well there's no time to find the leak now, just put a drain plug in the bottom of the trunk and launch the damn thing already. Maybe some 22 year old kid will figure out where the hole* is for us
*Because nobody under 18 can ever find the hole

Lol thats so true...they must have knew the damn thing had a leak in the first place...why didnt they just fix it instead of putting a drain plug??

Most cars have drain plugs in the trunk for situations like this one, as far as the leak goes the seals*note my pics* crack over time and water seeps through it. Now were the trunk and bumper meets i believe its just the trunk seal itself which leaks but i do agree Mazda should designed a better rear bumper in that it had a cover of some sort to cover where rockstar sealed up his leak.
