Hey i have a black interior and it has a whitish headliner, i do not like this at all, i was told alot of people have good results with dying it, does it have to come out for this? or is it a spray on application?
If i were you i would rehupolster it. I peeled all the fabric and foam off mine, then torched it to burn off all the loose ends (you see what i mean after you strip it to the card) Then i sanded it so its all smooth then put new fabric on with 3M Super Trim adhesive. I even put a mazda emblem imprint in the headliner using foam display board from office max.
You can buy headliner material, or suede, or velvet from the loacl fabric store. Try to get something that streches.
^I reupolstered mine, took me about 30 minutes (not including the time it took me to take it out and put it back in obviously)
Its pretty simple and easy. Mine has a few wrinkles in it, so you can tell its done by me, but it doesnt look too bad. Im fairly pleased with it actually. Just make sure you give it about a week to sit in a cool place so the glue will have time to dry. If not, youll get saggy headliner, and that wouldnt be a good thing
It took me 8 hours to peel and sand all the foam off my headliner.
I ripped off the old fabric, but left the padding down. It turned out pretty good actually. I was concerned on if id be able to keep the padding there, but it worked out for me. I wasnt about to try and rip all that padding off if I didnt need to. That must have been a PITA
I didnt feel like having to strip off the old material either so I just put headliner material over the old one and you can even tell what I did. So far it has stayed in tacked for about a year now. As far as the trim around the sunroof I went to an upholstery shop down the street and ordered some more. They sell it buy the foot and I dont remember how much it was but it was really cheap I believe.
Every car is a work of art.
Its just that some are like the art of Leonardo De Vinci, and some are like the art of little Betty Sue in the 3rd grade!
