License Plate Holders

Has anyone put after market / different cars license plate holders on the 6? I need some idea's because the OEM one is crap. If anyone has modified their license plate post some pictures. I'm trying to install a license plate holder like the ones that come on the JDM front bumper.

This is for the front bumper. Also, don't say go without a license plate. It's the law and I'm not in the mood or can afford stupid tickets.

To me that just doesn't look right. I have no problem drilling my front bumper but I'm wanting to find something a little cleaner.

Old Pic of my car: (Doesn't the license plate just look out of place?)

I'm thinking of something like this but looking for other idea's too:

This is gonna sound like a huge project, but, what about using the license plate holder from a pontiac grand prix? one of the older style (88-93, I think) It was molded into the right side of the bumper. Gonna see if I can find one and do a quick photochop on it.

Never be afraid to try something new.

Heres the KGF adjustable, removeable flip down plate i made:
It mounts on the bottom side of your bumper so you dont have holes in the bumper.

Only to be used on widemouth body kits.. i have no idea what i ever did with it.. Probaly in a box still.

Otherwise heres what I did for my bracket, under the bumper. I can remove it in minutes with a shorty philips screw driver. No holes in the bumper

Mine is set up the same way, i hate having a front plate. the holes were drilled in before i bought the car so i just left it as it was

Still need to adjust the sides a little more to try and get a closer fit. Need to paint it and new screws but here is how it looks now.

I have 2 bolts holding it in but I will put two small screws in from underneath. (Mainly because I can.) I think it came out pretty good and looks much better than the OEM license plate holder. It also doesn't block much of the radiator. (Definately not more than the original one.)

That looks awesome, I hate the way my front plate looks! What holder did you use and did you have to shave it down much to make it fit?

I picked the holder up from the wreckers for a few dollars. It came off a minivan. (give me a day to remember which van.) At first glance it appeared to fit pretty well but I had to trim a lot off both sides and top. It fit pretty good but it stuck out way too much. All I used was a knife to trim away until it fit nicely. I'll take a picture next time it is off to show how it is mounted.

Think of it like this: It was a large piece of plastic that you just need to shave with an exacto knife until it fit properly. Not much work but a little time consuming.

Originally I wanted the top of the license plate holder to sit in the groove of the bumper. It looked amazing but it blocked too much of the radiator which seemed like it would just cause problems.

I have 2 myself and my dad has like 3

ANYWAYS, Back to the topic.

Im surprised to got it to fit that nice, and smooth edges with the exacto. Did you use any type of sanding after the first cut to shape it to the bumper?

Just some light sanding. That is still the test fit. I hope to make it a little better whenever I find some free time.

PS. My dremel is kind of violent and I didn't feel like using it. Would have been faster but if I twitched wrong; I would have took out a huge section of the plastic.
