There's a few details you're going to have to work out. What are you going to do about the steering wheel lock, and how are you going to switch between off->ACC->on?

Contrary to belief it is super simple to wire up the button if you are willing to keep the ignition switch in the car. Key does everything except start the car, button starts it.
If you are not willing to keep the ignition switch then you have a number of issues to overcome. Aside from the looks of it there is no reason to do it but it certainly can be done. |

done alot of thinking and what ive thought out should work at this point. what im gonna do is leave the ignition in and the key in so the steering lock stays off, the chop the key a bit, fiber glass over it then run a switch for the acc, and a button or switch so start it.

You might want to edit your location before you do this as you just put up a *steal me* sign. And made it very easy to do.

it's not that easy to steal, the push button won't work if the key doesn't turn to "ON", once the key turns to ON, then the button is pushed to start the car. I test drove a Lotus and I couldn't even figure the damn thing out WITH the key, much less trying to steal it

I had it in my Z3. It is actually easy to install. It depends on your buttom. Mine basicly has all the instruction you need. It took me half an hour to install. But you will have to know the basic wiring system. Because the buttom is just a bypass to start the car.
Like other says, you need to put the key and turn the car on. Then you push the bottum to start the car. It is mainly for the look, you will have fun for the first few weeks, then you feel it is a dump buttom as you can turn the key all the way to start the car VS turn the car on first, then push the button to start the car. If you think like my CL500 & CLK500 with "Keyless Go" function, the buttom will disappoint you. If you think you can just leave the car key in the pocket, you go in & push the buttom then the car will start. THAT IS NOT HOW THE BUTTOM WORKS. |

Quick question here... If you have a remote start in your car, could you tap into that? Or would it be too much of a hassle.
Oh, and 94MX6, when you get that mod done, lemme know as I would love to see it. I'm just a city over, and go to newberlin a lot to see my grandma. Dont worry, I dont plan on stealing your car, I have 2 and could never fit another one ;-) |
