leds in my needles, man
So I messed up and got the wrong size led for my tail light project.. I orderd the 3mm instead of 5mm. These are way to small for what I want to do.. so, I got creative with my other set of gauges (from parts car).
A few hrs later, I got leds in my needles... I did some experimenting and scraped off the yellow paint on the mph and tach needle.. the gas and temp are still stock. Scrapeing the paint off was a bad idea.. they light up much more brighter with the paint (as you can see the temp and gas needle are super bright..) Anyway, they were just for the hell of it.. I think I might have ruined the mph motor thing..it doesnt return back like it used to.. it just sticks where ever you spin it to.... Ill probaly take the modified plastic peice and swap them with the ones in my mx6..so it has the led needles. Also some of ya may know I made a laser needle how to a long time ago.. That how to basically replaced the standard bulbs with leds.. It didnt light up the needles nearly as much as these do.. Also that created hotspots ( i used tape on the gauge face back to cover hotspots) and ment you couldnt have needles a seperate color from the numbers. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I also made a small shift light to replace my large proform one, the proform was to obnoxious.. I made a bite size one with 6leds and is much brigher.. I gutted the old shift light and used the internals to control the new one. I still have a ton of these little leds.. ![]() |

LED tail light project you say? I'm in the midst of designing the same thing. What type of LED's are you using?

Or you could have wasted less time, and saved your poor needles from being handicap by using testors paint(same stuff u paint your tails with) and coated the needles. Works just the same. Make things too damn difficult when you could just complete a simple task with less thought. Sometimes King6 your just too damn bored.

Its not really boredom, I just get alot of ideas, and I dont have bad habbits to fill my time like the majority of other people (smoking, drinking, gameing, gambling).
Also painting them would not make them make them as bright as they are. Also the gauges were off my parts car, they arent worth anything, I would have tossed the whole cluster into the trash otherwise The goal is to make the entire car different from what it was and personalized. |

I switched them over, I found out the gauges arent as fragile as I thought they were. The needle on the speedo was just pushed into far. The speedo, gas and the tach have resting spots so its not terribly hard to figure out how to put the needle back on.
So, BEFORE.. ![]() ![]() AFTER ![]() |
