Got tires for free! But will they fit?

I did a bit of looking but couldn't find a definitive answer...

I have 17x8" wheels...so I know the Toyo Proxies 235/45R17 will fit fine...but I'm curious as to whether they'll fit the car without rubbing?

I know I have to roll the rear fenders as anything but a 205 rubs like mad. Does anyone have any experience with 235s on their MX6?

A 205 rubs? Are you kidding? What is your wheel offset. Sounds to me that your wheels aren't made for the car, which would be why a tire 10mm over stock rubs.

235/45R17 will fit but its not the right size for these cars. The proper size to keep the proper diameter is 215/40R17.

no...205 doesnt rub. 215 does. not sure what the offset is, not too worried about it.

don't really care about keeping the same diameter either...

I had 235/45/17s on my car just a month ago. My 6 is lowered on teins and I had to roll the fenders. There was the occasional scrap but nothing really seriouse. Just make sure when you roll the fenders, get them as tight in as possible.

The only thing wrong with 235/45/17s is they will look pretty big on the car

here's a pic of mine with 235/45/17:

and here is with 225/35/17:

1993 Mazda MX6 [RF] - hardly ever driven but still money burnt on it
2006 Honda CBR600rr - daily driver/rider and potential death machine

LOL, those are only the 2 most important things you do have to care about when looking for new rims/tires!
I have 215/45 17 on 17x8 rims with 35mm offset and no rubbing.

Hahaha, glad someone said it!

The reason your tires rub is because of offset and tire diameter. If the tire is too tall, it will hit the wheel well. If the offset of the wheel is wrong, the tires will be too close to the strut or too far out the side of the car. Match those 2 up and you have a problem.

I have 225's on mine and don't rub and have had 19x9's on the car that didn't rub either unless I drove the car over bumps, but that was based on the 2 things described...offset was too aggressive and diameter was too high.

well duh i know its important...but i'm not going to buy another set of rims just because they're "not right for the car" because of the offset. they have a bigger offset so they're out a bit but still within the outermost part of the fenders. they're perfect for me...almost flush.

well now i'm not worried about them hitting the inside strut then...the fenders i'm not worried about at all...i have to roll them regardless.

i've never...ever paid full price for tires, and never ever run more then a day on scary-bald tires...yay for being poor college student with connections :P

I'll think I will stand this one out.. ... lol as I got 8.5s in the front and 9.5 inch in the rear with a quarter inch spacer in the back, but im stretched so i get minimal rubbin.. only if I go crazy on the bumps hehe .. but im psycho so I like when it rubs hehe... plus she is also slammed on teins hehe but at hardest setting so it dont bounce much hehe

If you go smaller tire width it just means the tire will be a lil bit stretched thats all..
