Grinding out a weld is pretty easy, i use to do it on military cranes.

1996 M-Edition-SS Sills, JSpec Headlights, Black Interior Conversion, Right Hand Drive Conversion on the way.

Sorry for the late response.

If I remember correctly, I took the weld points out with only a powered drill (plug in) and titanium drill bits. Because the weld points were only spots. Drilling the hole through the center of the weld point eliminated the area of contact. it wasn't perfect, as there would be still a thin circle of weld, but at that point, there was so little surface area in which the two parts were welded, I could bend the rest of the weld off with my hands or wedged the chisel with the hammer.

I also remember that I sold those race seats and parted out miata seats from pick and pull. I'll have to check if I have pictures, but I do remember how I installed them. I used those same mx6 brackets that I modded, and placed metal bars at the top (you can weld them on) but I bolted them on. Then on the bars I drilled holes for the miata seat and bolted those on.

After a long wait for the shipment of the angle grinder I went out in my garage and got to work. Working on the passenger seat, I drilled out the double sided bolts and pried the two metal peices apart with flathead just enough to slip my wheel to get at the welds. The first bracket came off without problems.
But of course, the second one didn't. I decided to call it a day after being unable to remove the welds because of the big plate on the side. I grinded the [shizzle] out of it to get it out of the way and still i can't get at the weld points easy.

My friends dad convinced me to take the brackets to a shop and get the weld points removed. Didn't seem like a bad idea after getting no where myself. So I'm taking the 3 remaining brackets to a shop on monday. My plan is to tell them i'm making a go cart and pulled the brackets from a car in a junk yard to avoid liability issues.

If that doesn't work out ill give it another shot, following the guide more closely. Drilling welds out sucks! But if it has to be done i'm going to do it.

I have finally got my seats in my car. Originally I wanted to keep the original seatbelt mount on the rails but that never worked out. I ended up removing that from the weilds and had metal bars weilded on to the rails like t14 described. Another problem arose when i tried to bolt the seats onto these bars as they were to wide and did not fit between the rails. So i went to depot and got more steel bars and bolted those into the seat and then bolted that bar to the bottom one welded onto the rails. It took alot of time, so much more than I thought but it was worth it to finally get my seats in! I'll post a picture of one of my rails and my seats as well!
