I can has MS tune haha

So if you dont know I gave Radar's MegaSquirt a good home and I still have lots to learn. I also have not opened the replacement wiring harness yet.

I guess I could PM him but I wanted to save being annoying for when I have more pertinent questions.

I have a few questions about my goodies.

1. Id have to check but I swear he said the Crank Pulley had been modified and that is why he was including it with the MS setup. So my question is how is it suppose to look? This is identical to all the stock pulleys I have.

2. Okay so plug wires for the coil pack. He sent NKG's which look stock since I have a match pair here. My question is, it appears that he just took the stock ends (plastic) off and slipped the metal ends inside. So could I do this to my plug wires that match my car?

3. What do I need to close off the hole left over from removing the disty?

4. There is a pack of wires and a smaller black box that is hanging from the MS Unit. Out of there come another set of wires and the connection on it looks like that kind you use to hook up trailer lights. What this?

5. I assume the sensor I receive is a coolant sensor. Given that is looks almost like the stock unit except the tip is open plastic mesh with a blue thing hanging down, it looks like a small round LED. Why is this needed with the MS unit? Is this a turbo only thing?

6. Is this statement correct? Since I have his wiring harness for the MS and I purchased wideband, I can when I install this all correctly that I can completely remove the stock ECU and harness.

I plan and I say plan because I never know where work takes me but I want to fully photo document this, they the 1gen guys have going.

As with everything I do for the Mazda and the reason I bought it was for experience.

The good news is that my project should close out by the 30th so I will have some down time to read all the material I have not yet.

1. There should be a tooth missing assuming it's a V6.

2. Changes from brand to brand ... pull the boot up and give it a shot.

3. A freezeplug, probably.

4. Have no clue. Ask the seller or compare the wiring to the megamanual.

5. That's an IAT sensor.

6. There's so many modified versions of MS, I couldn't tell you. Depends on what you have, how you modify it, and how you wire things up.

First off I think after I have asked all my questions I can reformat everything into a new thread and it will be our first FAQ, sound good?

At 2nd glance I now notice the tooth that has been very well done when they removed it. Could you explain to my why MS needs the tooth to be removed? Does this allow for timing adjustments.

Speaking of timing in general with MS does anyone have any special information, how do you check your timing in MS?

Mine are the Probe Addiction style that have the red cloth.

When I read freeze plug I had to read what I had asked in the question again. I have had a lot of bad luck with freeze plugs on other cars and so that worries me I would want them to come off. I think I will ask Jordan directly.

If removed the PVC system I would then have that metal port threaded that I could use to install the sensor.

I will then update this section with that information.

Great info for the FAQ that I will add from here: http://www.mx6.com/forums/united-kin...at-sensor.html (whats the iat sensor)

The missing tooth on the wheel is used a reference, the megasquirt will sense the gap and realize that the engine is at a certain position. I believe the missing tooth should align with the sensor when the #1 piston is at TDC.

if you used that IAT as a coolant sensor.. you would have one hell of a time tuning it

94 mx6 - you name it - I did it, came up with it, tried it and rejected it or just plain still have it.
93 mx3 - klze, i/h/e, rims and paint.. daily driver.

You check timing with a timing gun and compare it to what Megasquirt says.
If you run EDIS, you just disconnect the SAW wire and make sure it's reading 10 BTDC on the gun.

The freezeplug has worked in my disty hole for 4 years now, but the 2.5L is a different setup.
Did you search and see what everybody else was using?
Several people besides Jordan have deleted the disty.

I'm deleting the disty on a 94 ZE either this or next weekend and setting it up with coilpacks because the downpipe is too close ... if you don't have an answer by then, I'll let you know what I use.

Whatever you find out about capping off the old disty hole please let me know as I need to do this as well.

I also have a question on the crank pully modification. AJ post pics if you could.

I could have sworn that Ryan (pazzer) said I dont need the disty to run the car but I never have modified my crank pulley so unless theres another type of position sensing outside the disty I think I am gonna have to grind the one tooth off the crank pulley and make the modification.

As far as the coilpacks and plug wires go, you can use stock plug wires with the ford coilpacks, just take and crimp the end down a little bit as the connection point on the ford coilpacks is just a hair smaller than the connection on the mx6 disty.

Any updates on this AJ?

I could have sworn you posted pics of the crank pulley reluctor ring, but I cant find them?

Im interested as I am going to have to do this crank pulley mod as soon as I switch to coilpacks.
