Smile Cool intake manifold project pictures...

Guys,

Pics of my intake manifold project. I have a 75mm mustang throttle body I will be using with this. Plenum inlet location is still TBD though. Plenum will be 2"x3" (width x height).

nice job cutting runners..how are you going to connect them? id probly get a small tube and put holes on each side with tb flange on the end. but that might be too small. id cut lil shorter and get tube and have holes at your 3 oclock and 5 oclock and custom rails...get it!

Im interested in the end result.

As is, from a fabricaton view, i cannot see how your going to make them practical for removal and installation. Also for power.

Plenum will be rectangular, 2" width, 3" height. There is 2" of clearance between the two pieces in the picture. I have not decided on plenum inlet. There are two choices I am debating against:
* asymmetric-2"x3" inlet on driver side
* symmetric-1"x8" inlet from firewall side
This manifold will be for boosted application only. For power, its a matter of getting as much air in as possible without restriction. The shape of the plenum is not ideal, but should be negligible at boost. The inlet surface area is my main concern. My throttle body surface area is 7.065 in^2. The asymmetric option is only 6 in^2 but will be easier and cheaper to fabricate. The symmetric option will give me 8in^2 but will be more difficult and expensive to fabricate.

King, don't see your point in ease of removal/installation. Can you elaborate on that for me?

Boyzero, the plenum will attach the two runners together and lie just above the stock fuel rails. See the new picture below. There is no need for custom rails, this design is meant to use stock manifold flanges / rails.

Hmm...keep us posted with pics if you can or your ideas. not enough information for me to make any type of comment or suggestion. not sure how you plan on doing tb but i would probly recommend from plenum, 2" to 2.75" or even 3" @ tb flange. but let us know wut u think of.....im very interested in your idea...

boyzero,

i will post pics of throttle body and its flange this weekend. I'll also take a picture with it in the approximate location for the asymmetric version. The flange has a 75mm opening for the throttle body and is 4"x4" on the outside. The plan is to have an adapter section which grows the plenum from 2"x3" to 4"x4" at the flange for the asymmetric version. I am very much leaning towards the asymmetric version for the initial build. If I am not happy with the results of that, I will fab a symmetric version. Since the air will only enter one runner at a time, I am thinking the asymmetry of inlet on driver's side won't be an issue.

Now this is gorgeous!!! Def looking forward to it. So basically you took two IM's and cut the front runners off after the curve. I really like it def a great original idea!

exactly! there was only a little trimming required for the one placed on the firewall side. if it turns out as i hope, i will do a ze version as well.
