Water Temp Survey

Hey everyone, i am looking for opinions on the effect of thermostat removal on water temp. My car is stripped of all heating and air conditioning so i don't mind if the heat never gets hot. I am looking for the effect on water temp only, i have heard a lot of different stuff:

1) many hot rod guys say it will lower water temps because it allowes for constant flow

2) a lot of OEM people and repair shops say that it will actually increase water temp because it will circulate so fast that it doesn't have enough time to exchange heat

To me it makes sense that it would lower the temp, Has anyone actually done this and noticed a difference? any opinions would be helpfull

There is a big thread on this in the general automotive section. i dont think a consensus was reached. Your getting Megasquirt though arent you? It has a reading for the coolant temp, check it when the thermostat is in, and then again when you take it out.

If you filled out the email the way he specifies on the thread he should get back to you within a few days. And yes Radar and Shaodome are the same person.

All I can add to this is whenever I have my A/C or Heater fans blowing the engine heats up faster. Maybe from more load on the engine itself?? Not sure honestly but even on cool days it will run 5-10* hotter with fans on. But my gas milage hasnt been good since 2002 so at this point its not my concern.

You suck at life

I removed mine ages ago, but I'm in Florida....no snow here....

If you are only driving in warmer temps, then its fine. Hell...I have a new OEM raditor, slim fans (flexalites) and no tstat. car never gets over 190F.

When the temp drops, I had to block off half the radiator on the way to myrtle just to get the temp to stay around 180F. Could I probably reinstall it...yah...but I am lazy. I wouldn't worry about it unless you have overheating problems. It is a quick fix and cheap.

fixed it for ya

this man speaks the truth!

if you have cooling issues, something is wrong, or you need a bigger radiator.
