load on the engine

i never knew the answer to this. why does there have to be a load on the engine for the turbo to spool. why cant you free rev it and have the turbo spool?

It's not until your car does a 5th gear burnout on the highway that you take a step back and mutter "OH [shizzle]"

Yargh! When the engine is under load it makes more pressure. On the turbos we use on our 2nd gens, and that the turbo is so far away from the head, it is hard to get it to spool at idle. I cant.

Look at a 1st gen tiny turbing and right off the manifold (like all/most factory turbo cars) it takes very little for it to spin.
