Fuel Pressure Regulator Q's

Hey guys,

I went down to my local autopro shop and i explained what i was doing (FI) and asked about the FMU.

He told me he had a Rising Fuel Pressure Regulator and i wouldnt need a FMU becuase it works off vacum like the FMU...

I belived him although i still have a bad feeling, is what he is sayign true? its not much off a loss because i still need a fuel pressure reg anyways..

but he said this was a rising rate one and no need for a FMU..

is he screwing me over or not?

( i plan going down MS but untill MS is ready i just wanna zip around untill it gets here...)

get the fmu. the fpr you have to adjust by hand (if I member right) and you just set how much pressure it lets threw. the fmu works how he said. so if you get the fpr only it will let just that much threw all the time. fmu will do it when boosting. get the vortech fmu they dont cost that much at all.

But he said he had never heard of a FMU and said that a FPR does it all..

I knew he was wrong but i wanted to check, on the AUS ebay there is nothing on FMU.. Might ask in my own section....

but I hate it when people say its going to worka nd then dosnt...

No one in Australia has heard of a FMU, because we arent dodgy [mangina]s (Copex excluded).

FMU's are just not common here as everyone goes standalone if you are adding boost, performance shops will know it, but your average guy at counter wont. I didnt know what it was till I got on the net.

It is always time for a standalone when you are doing things the car wasnt designed for. Each to their own though. If I couldnt afford the standalone I wouldnt of turbocharged. MS just happened to be cheap luckily, 2k for a standalone would have put me off.

sure the ms is cheap (pending what you get) but for low boost you can use a fmu. just got to keep a eye on the car and what it is doing, and tune! that is the big thing TUNE!

How do you tune a car without a tunable ECU. Playing with fuel pressure is not tuning.
