bov problems

Got my turbo back on finally, and now my bov is opening when i free rev it, but it is extremely quiet!

when im driving it, doing any gear pulls, i get compressor surge

im boosting up to 5psi..

the bov could be sort of opening when im driving, but it is to quiet for me to hear, but if it were to open, why would i get compressor surge?

My vac source is from the FPR from the manfiold on the 5th runner
i used to have it right after the TB but it wouldn't even open or make a sound..

where should i get my vac source? why is my bov so quiet or doesnt really work under load?

im running a greddy type s bov with only the one large spring in it with the adjustment screw all the way undone

Im in the same position as you. I think that my old turbo got killed from my BOV not opening properly even though I could not hear the surge. My new turbo is also seeming to have the same problems as the old one which sux as it is a genuine Turbonetics as opposed to my chatty ebay one.

I would definately say that this is vac source related. The runner on the FPR is a big no no for the BOV, no way near enough vac. I use the nipple near the throttle body as well although I also T off that for my MAP sensor and EBC and wastegate reference so I dont think it is enough.

So while I cant help you, I will say you are not alone . Looking forward for someone to answer. If I was you I would avoid driving it at all or at least stay out off boost otherwise you your new turbo will be dieing as my one seems(I could just be paranoid) to be .

that vac source should still be more than enough to open it...

make sure the lines not kinked or collapsed, and play with the blow off valve in your hands. Blow on the nipple (making some ammount of psi) and see how the valve opens, then using the same pressure swich from blowing to sucking ()/vacuum. See if it becomes alot easier to open.

doesnt make much sense, unless the blow off is not working.

I would say your turbo is too big for your application and you're way left of the surge line maybe?

I'm running into the same problem.

I meant the OP so we could find out if you were right and his turbo was too big.

Ahh, well im trying to figure out why, when i changed my vac source to the FPR, my bov tends to make a sound compared to when it was after the TB on the neck...

but i am running a garret t3/t4 60 trim, .60/.63

That turbo should be fine, common size for what people use.

Get a vacuum block and splice the vacuum source with your brake booster signal. Use that same size (3/8" or so) to your BOV.

I'm using the greddy type s bov, so there is a top and bottom

one doesn't necessarily need to be hooked up, but it helps open and close more efficiently

which one do i hook up from the brake booster since it only provides vac? or does the brake booster receive boost?

Think about it...and I'm not familiar with the Greddy BOV's. I would hook up where it says vacuum, if it's that clear and not do the other.
