This is kinda a ghey question, but why is my CAI so damn quite. The post below this made me remeber to ask the question. I have your run of the mill ebay CAI, but so does my GF in her Spec-V. Her's holy crap, when you hit 5K, DAMN so freaking loud, I love it. Mine, pretty much just a slight tone, but nothing that really grabs you. My RX-7 was wicked loud too.
What can I do to get some noise outta this thing. I know it sounds dumb, but I would rather have the loud then the quite, no to show off, just for my own personal satisfation. So is there any given filter that is known to be loud, or are MX6's just quite in the intake dept no matter what?
Thanks!
Todd

a change in filter, will likely give you some sound, but I don't know what kinda filter will give you what your looking for. there were some posts the other day about people complaining how loud their intakes were, do a quick search, maybe you can find out what kind of filters they were using.

There's a lot of times where it seems he tries to sound smart by stringing together a bunch of words, but it just ends up making no sense and he ends up looking like a [fizzle]face.
My exhaust is nice, but ya it is louder than stock, but not Honda buzzing bee's loud, it's nice and throaty. It's kinda quite, quite, like with my ear next to the drivers side tire, and my GF goosing it, I can hear a nice sucking noise. But like I said her Spec-V, WOW, just wicked loud and I love it.
Malicious, what filter do you run?
Maybe I should get a K&N, or that new orange one from APC. I dunno. I'll run a search for loud one's.
That was advise, I have that one.
Thanks!

No clue, just some generic piece of crap that came with the Integra GSR intake I got off of Ebay.

mine screams when you punch it, if I listen carefully I can hear when the VIRS changes..
my car was quiet as hell before the intake.. I love the CAI, after I launch I never look at the tac anymore.. its sooo much easier to shift by ear
I want that =), what setup do you have?

same as you but w/stock exaust... I dunno why mine could be louder but it sure is alot louder than stock.. the first 2 weeks after installing my CAI I burned up sooo much gas because I would punch it for no reason but to hear it roar..
Do you have an upper elbow for your intake as well? I believe there is a black box that acts to reduce resonation in the intake, that at least on the I4, is in the part between the MAF (VAF on the V6) and the intake manifold. Mine is still loud as hell even without an upper elbow, you can very audibly hear it sucking in air when the car is idling and it hisses loudly when the car is turned off.
Just another idea...

Yes, mine is the full CAI, I still have the factory MAF of course, but you need that.......
I just thought, when I installed this thing I fawked up one of the silicone couplers, and ended up using a 4" to 3" plumbing spacer (don't laugh, ok, you can laugh) maybe that would have something to do with it. I can hear a hiss when I shut the car off.........

in general though - the length, how many bends, the filter, and the material used can all affect how the intake sounds. i notice that metal plumbing produces a more aggressive sound than abs/pvc plumbing.. and that short rams are more audible than true CAI's on our cars...
