Will 20mm offset 16" x7.5" work on LS?

I bought some wheels on eBay that are 20mm offset, expecting to machine
the mounting face about 1" to 45mm total offset. However, the wheels can
not be safely machined more than about 3mm, due to the mounting face
design.

Since the lesser offset moves the wheel out about 1" compared to stock, will
they clear the bodywork with standard sized tires? I want to get as close as
possible to stock diameter, but not have the tires rub under cornering loads.

Does anyone else run a wheel with this offset? What aspect ratio tire will I
need? I don't want to buy and fit a tire to find out if it will work.

Or does anyone run a 1" spacer with a 45mm offset wheel?

Thanks for your help.

I have 5/16" spacer with my FDs (40mm I think), tires are 245/50/16, and my rear wheels are just even with the quarter panel.

Thanks for that input. I got an email from Donkeyman who is running 35mm
and he is going to look at his car, especially around the rear tire, and see if
the rim can move outward another 15mm and still have clearance. I suspect if
it works, I'll have to use a fairly narrow tire on the rim. No problem, it just
means the rims are more likely to end up with curb rash.
