I waited a little while and it started up again but hesitated but after anbout 10 sec it did the same thing and stopped again. I have had this randonly happen before but it always started back upo and went. Now when I start it it turns over but just won't start. Now i have a bad altinator i don't know if that has anyting to do with it but it squeels when it starts. I need some kind of help.

this is a common problem with our cars. your distributor is the problem, replace it and you'll be ok
if u look in the 2G project forums you can find a $20 ignitor fix, that should help also. if u need more info just ask

I just replaced my distributor like a year ago because it died and it cost me like 700 bucks. Is there anything else that may be the problem? thanks for the input

Yep. Spictacular is very probably right. I notice from your previous posts that you have a 93. The ignitor/distributor problem was common for the 93.

The sqealing from the alternator is probably just a loose belt (or just maybe a bad bearing), and is unrelated to your car suddenly shutting down. If it shut down because the alternator failed, and the battery was flat, you wouldn't be able to crank it.

EDIT: I just saw your second post. Where did you buy the replacement distributor from?

I bought the distributor from maslak supply and auto store in sudburty. Now why did it just do it puriotically. I mean this has been going on for months. Now when the car started it studdered and hesitated, just for some exra info.

Also is there a way to check the spark on the distributor. I was told once how to do it with a screw driver but i can't rember how?

As NickR and spictacular said, it's probably the disty. The symptoms of a failing ignitor module (inside the distributor) are just that - it will stop working when it overheats, then start working again later.

Non-OEM distributor assemblies have also been known to fail sooner than the OEM units, which may explain why you are back here again?

The alternative is to do the HEI module replacment, which uses a standard, $20 GM ignitor module to replace this cheap, small one.

Just another bit of info. Your fuel pump can also cause the same effects. The other thing you can do is have the computer checked for error code as that will also let you know what is causing the problem.
