Can anybody tell me what the advantages of 4WS would be ?
I mean its not like you see it around everyday. Also i hear that their are lots of problems with it . Click here to see Video
1 Does anyone have a 4WS Mx6 on a skid pad or doing a skid/drift whatever ?
2 Is this an advantage over domestic 2WDS mx6's
3 lol are you going to be able to steer better cause of it ?
My MX6 has 4ws, i think that it is great. Basically it feels like the 4ws gives you a much smaller turning circle so when you turn the steering wheel it is as if your steering wheel movement is amplified. I have not had any problems with the 4ws mechanically but I have heard that it is pretty expensive to have fixed.

I find that the 4ws is good for doing handbrake turns because if you sit in the back of my car when going around a corner normally, it feels like the back is sliding out. That is because the rear is getting steered around the corner instead of being pulled around the corner. It feels like when I go around a corner the rear end of the car (because it is steering around the corner) has enough momentum to start a slide without having to do a turn in the opposite direction first to build momentum to swing the back out. But when you straighten up it sort of flicks back because of the 4ws.
2 Is this an advantage over domestic 2WDS mx6's
Some would say no but I say that it is advantageous over 2ws, 4ws is great for u-turns and parallel parking. When i drove a 2ws mx6 it almost feelt like it was understeering.
3 lol are you going to be able to steer better cause of it ?
Of course, especially at low speeds it is more noticable.
4 Is it all that it's cracked up to be?
If I had the choice between 2 MX6s for the same price. one with 4ws and one without 4ws I would go for the one with 4ws, however if the one with 4ws was an extra 500 then I would go for the one without 4ws. Its good but its nothing to get all excited about.
5 4WS vs 4WS switched off ?
I dont think you can turn off the 4ws if the car comes stock with 4ws.
6 What happens @ a high speed turn/ corner ?
As you go faster the angle that the back wheels turn gets smaller. So when you are parking or going really slow the rear wheels turn as far as they go (like in the above pictures) but at 50mph you almost cant feel the effects of the 4ws because the rar wheels do not turn a much.

yes, it makes it much more easy to manoeuvre at lower speeds, and also is great in carparking. my driveway is a PITA to reverse down, and so having the back end of the car also steer is a real bonus
roflcopter ok 4ws is teh best in my opinion, i would neva go without it, i have driven my car with it disengaged (fault) and it DID understeer... a LOT... to the point where the front would skid then the back would skid then vice versa again and again then with it back on it seemed to flow around the corners... as if the back of the car was moving out to catch the body rolling... its amazing... and at 57kph the 4ws changed direction... say at low speeds its opposite lock and at high speeds it chaniges direction so the roar wheels face the same way as the front ones... like crab crawling and i would pay an extra 500 - 1000 for a 4ws mx6... i wouldnt be without it the mx's key feature is the 4ws, why be without it? it was designed to have it; enjoy it!
THATS MAH CAR!!!! Yes 4WS is the [shizzle]... the best invention ever. Ive lost the 4WS and it feels like crap without it. I DD a 4WS car and weekend drive a E-Spec (2WS) and there is a major difference... i cant even explain how good it feels...

Does anyone have any under car shots (when the car is on a lift) of the 4ws setup?
Dan Life, Liberty and the Pursuit... 93 MX6 LS part out
95 K2500 - i/c/e 4L80, 93 formula LT1 4L60 95 S10 v8 swap, ~400hp Vortec SBC, 4L60, fuel injected, 3.23 spool
^^[fizzle], i always wanted to take pics of my setup, as the underside of my car was immac... but never did
i think i might have a shot with it in it.. ill look.
anyway, in the meantime enjoy the retartedness:
things to remember:
-goes opposite way UNDER 55kmh
-goes same direction as fronts above 55kmh
-automatically tries to straighten up when the ignition is turned off (so it doesnt look so spaz when parked )
- and if it ever breaks, it locks straight.. so you never loose
it was a main gimmick and one of the reasons that made me look into the mx6 in the first place
I remember reading that 4ws is not a advantageous as you would think when it comes to performance. Like someone said....its a gimmick. Why dont you think more sports cars come with it?
well i know nissans version 'HICAS' in the R33 skylines makes it worse at high speed conrnering, makes the ass end uneasy. in the mx6 it was fine though.
and it was a gimmick, just like turbo's in the 80's, 4WS in the early 90's was HAWT! but it only made a real impact on FWD cars, like the mx6, where it really got rid of the understeer, and made the handling better.
a GD mx6 turbo without 4ws is a joke. they handle like a turd, and once that turbo kicks in? well, it corners like it is on skis.... straight!
