Hey guys I let my car sit in front of my house for 5 days without driving it. I decided to put my old stock air intake back on my car instead of the [shizzle]y under hood ram air intake. So i did all of that then I started my car and it was working good for about 10 minutes of idling.
Then all of a sudden the car turned off and it will not start again!!! it turns over so its not the battery or starter so im thinking its the distributor but just to make sure I would like to know a way of checking to see if it is the disty.
My dad tried pulling on of the sparkplug wires off and put his finger on the end to see if it would shock him as I was starting the car, obviously you should not try this, my dad is just crazy like that ;/ but ya he didnt get any shock, not with any of the 6 plugs (1993 mazda mx6 v6 2.5l 205,000km's).
What should I be doing here to test whats really broken? Could it be a fuse ? if its the disty is it possible for me to get a new one and install it in front of my house by myself??
Any help would be great since im moving out in 2 weeks and I NEED THIS CAR WORKING!!! Thanks guys
Yeah, uh, a SAFE way to check for spark would be to remove a spark plug, plug it into the boot, ground the plug, and crank the engine. lol. It would also be a good idea to remove the fuel pump relay so the car doesn't have much of a chance of starting. Actually, I'm not sure that just putting your finger in the boot would even be enough to complete the circuit and result in a shock. Just like you don't get shocked by grabbing ONE terminal on the battery, right? Anyway, check for spark the way I mentioned above to be sure. Also, are you SURE you connected the necessary vacuum lines to the airbox?
yeah i made sure all hoses were connected to the airbox. I thought it might have been the reason so i tried hooking up the ram air intake again and same thing it wont start, even tried to reset the ecu. All hoses are in the correct places. I will try to see if there is a spark from the plugs. What if there is no spark ?
Then you havd a problem with your disty or CKP or ECU, is there a CEL?

Well when my car use to start i only had one check engine light and it was because i unplugged my MAF on my air intake when i turned my car on and that is the only check engine light code i had. the check engine light was never on while driving. Maybe there will a new check engine code since it stoped working?
Well CKP is Crank position sensor but there would be a code if it was the problem. I would assume the Ignitor has went bad, it is one of the few conditions that cause no spark without triggering a CEL. you can swap that with a known working one and try that or you can do the HEI mod.

double check anything you unplugged. I've done that a few times, you start a thread go back with a fresh eye and feel like a tard. Who knows. Best of luck.
Yeah im thinking its my distributor. Is it hard to time the distributor? my dad said one of his old cars had this problem and it happened when the belt on his distributor changed the timing somehow.... wouldn't the sparkplugs still fire but at the wrong time if the timing is off? because i get no spark at all. Is there any information that can help me install a new disty myself ? i guess its basically just the timing procedure i need some info on.
