Well figured I'd do it anyways :P

PROCEDURE FOR REMOVAL OF THE STARTER MOTOR:
(4 CYLINDER ONLY)

1. Detach the negative terminal of the battery. Caution: The radio in your vehicle with an anti-theft system, Make sure you have the correct activation code before disconnecting the battery.

Personally, I dont think the MX6 stock radios had it, mine didnt :S but if yours does read the caution well.

2. Remove the air intake duct and the air cleaner housing.

3. Remove the bracket that runs between the intake manifold and the starter motor.

4. Clearly label, then disconnect the wires from the terminals on the starter motor solenoid. Disconnect any clips securing the wiring to the starter.

5. Remove the mounting bolts and detach the starter.

6. INSTALLATION is the reverse of the removal.

Sry I dont have any diagrams, if you need some or have questions just post em here and I'll do my best to answer em!

I can't find it. Is that the transmission coming out of the right side, and is it inside that or something because I can't see it anywhere.

It appears to be bolted on the back side of the transaxle. Since your airbox is out you should be able at this point to trace the positive lead from your battery terminal through the factory harness and to the starter.

I believe the tranny comes out on the driver's side on both vehicles, the starter will not be located in the tranny but it will be near it.

I'll try to make this simple.

Your starter is always located near your flywheel, your flywheel is located between your engine and tranny, so the starter is almost always if not always located right where the engine and tranny connect. take a look under the car, my diagram shows it near a piece of flex pipe under the car (most likely the flex pipe is part of the exhaust). Remember to look where the engine and tranny connect when under there.

I will look for a real pic of it.

Alright, I think I found it located under the manifold connected to the transmission, but it's blocked by tubing so I can't see it too well. I see one wire connected to it and two bolts holding it on. Is it just the one wire or are there more?

It will have a positive lead coming from the battery as well as a negative lead grounding to the frame. And it looks to have 3 bolts holding it on not two.

Tip: get help when re-installing it. It was MUCH easier to have a helper hold it in place from the top, while I started to thread the bolts from underneath the car. PITA when I didn't have help. Removal is easy by yourself, its the installation that sucked.

Glad you were able to DIY it, too! Feels good to tackle something that might be intimidating at first.
