So I managed to blow the un-blowable HEI lol

yeah, I'm scratching my head too.

car started and ran today just fine i was doing some maintenance for the upcoming good weather.. so i change out plugs, fuel filter, oil... basic sunday stuff, before heading off to my mom's for m-day.

i restart the car, and notice she'd running rough.. like a fouled plug... so i stop, re-gap everything, notice one of the plugs is (already) a bit black - meaning #5 isn't sparking well...

swap out the wire just in case... (identical set from when i warrantie'd my original set for 1 broken wire - they let me keep the others)

start, she catches for a split second and then just died.

now I get the infamous crank. no start.

I de-wire the hei (it was installed on a new-ish autozone disty) and she starts up fine. re-wire it - nothing.

I'll pick up a spare tomorrow and see,. I haven't hit the old one with a multimeter yet to test for continuity... but anyways - odd that it ran like this for the past 18 months just fine... only thing I can think of is that it finally overheated... they do get pretty hot, and i didn't design in a heat sink for mine like some people have.

I'm on my second one. I keep a spare in the glove compartment with a heatsink already attached.

Words should be a little wild,
For they are the assault of thought on the unthinking.

i hear a pentium II cpu heatsink, the slot 1 type, works well as a aftermarket heatsink for the HEI mod

I've burned up many an HEI on my small block cars.Heat sinks are nice but won't do a whole lot of good if the air surronding it is hot like in the 6 engine bay.
