Car wont start HELP!!!!!
so here is what happened i went to my girlfriends last night. i was there for awhile well when i went to leave my ar wouldnt start. ran perfectly fine on the way there. here is waht it is doin. when you turn the kep to start it does not crank or attempt to crank what so ever. But the battery is fully charged and has a good connection (all electronics work fine) so i tried to pop start the car. it wont do that either. when i tried pop starting it it started for a split second then shut off. and wouldnt start what so ever after that. here are the things i knwo that it is not. the starter is good, the battery is good, the tranny and clutch are good. the ignition is good, and fuses are good. anyone have any ideas what it could possibly be???
Thanks Sean |

Sometimes the battery connections (and the ground connections) are good enough to run the minor electronics, but not good enough to start the car (the starter motor uses a lot more current).
Put a multimeter, set on volts, to measure the voltage across each connection while someone tries to start the car. If the connection is good, the volts should stay at zero. If the connection is bad, there will be a significant voltage drop (or rise, depending on which way round you have the leads). Or, I wonder if it's the clutch position sensor? Try this: remove the thin "trigger wire" off the spade terminal on the starter motor. Make absolutely sure the car is in neutral. Then connect 12+ volts to that spade terminal (the easiest way to do this is to put a screwdriver across from the thich terminal for the wire from the positive battery terminal. If it cranks, the problem is the clutch position sensor, or ignition switch, or the wiring in between. Last edited by NickR : 5-14-08 at 15:48. |

Have you done the HEI mod? could be your internal one is shot. happens just like that one day it won't turn on and in a few hours when it cools off it will start but the time gets longer and longer until its toast

ok well i was looking at it some more today. all my relays and fuse are def good and it is 5spd. but i noticed another problem when i turn the car ot the on position and try to trun on the heat or any kind of air nothing blows. whereas before if i turnedthe car off and the engine was still hot i could have heat blowing til the car cooled off. so im thinking it must be something electrical. but the thing i dont understand is the ar wasnt bumped or moved after i parked it at my gfs so i am at a loss. i have no idea waht it could be.

Ignition switch, check to see if there's voltage going to the starter while someone trys to crank it.

If your ignition switch is shot, then the car doesn't know to be in the 'on' position, which means it won't run, no matter how you try to start it.

ok. well again thanks to everyone for the help. but i got the car started. turns out the wire on the top of the starter solenoid (sp?) no the power or ground but the other smaller wire had broken off. so I sodered back on and the car is running great now. the only thing im not sure about though is why didnt it pop start because the car ran without that wire connected.
