I need a little help... where to start

I just got a great deal... somebody gave me a 1995 MX-6! Here's the deal... It was a daily driver and on its way to work the guy told me it started to jerk while he was driving from take off... more like near stalling during acceleration from a stop light... he figured it was the tranny and got the filter and fluid changed... worked great then did it again the next week and the car stopped... He towed it home and has been sitting there for the past 2yrs...
My question is what could have it possibly been to make it do that, and where should I start with trying to bring it back to life?

hmmm. if it was the trans, i would assume automatic, it wouldnt really be jerking like that if it was on its way out. check to see if theres something blocking the intake system. if not, go for the electricals such as spark plugs and wires. last thing i can think of is the fuel filter might be clogged or the fuel pump isnt pumping fuel properly...

mine: 93 ZE, clutchmaster clutch, fidanza flywheel, poly motor mounts, HS CAI, HS headers, ractive exhaust, F&R strut bars, ground controls on illuminas, SS clutch line, espec heads/corners and much much more!!
hers: 93 ZE. pretty much the same mods. + F&R drilled rotors, STS, h&r's

Check for spark. If there's no spark, suspect the distributor.
