96pgt still wont start but more info.
The car is a 96probe gt and the car runs great when it starts. When the car sits overnight or sits for more then an hour after being run the car will not start and I lose spark. Usually I am able to push start it and the car starts and runs fine, I can then shut it off if I stop somewhere for a little bit but if I leave it for a while the car will not start. the closest autozone is about 40 minutes away and I pulled the CEL bulb beaucse I did a mtx swap and I couldnt get the atx errors to stop showing up. anyway, without going to autozone to have them run the codes where can I start. I have a extra set of good wires and plugs that I swapped so I know that not the problem, I guess I am stumped on where to start because after I get the car running after sitting it runs fine. any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Mike

If you are able to push start it...the car is not losing spark....It sounds like a bad starter or battery.....When you turn the key...does nothing happen..if so it's the starter or battery

Tired of burning up in your 6, my Mx6 has vent temps in the low 30's....I have the solution...Transform your 6 from a sweat box..into an ICE BOX.

Agreed, if you hear a click in the engine bay then it's the starter. If you hear nothing, then it's the battery, but you wouldn't see lights either. You may need to specify, is the car cranking but not starting, or not even cranking

The prospect of outsized profits leads people to exaggerate their own capabilities. In their minds. They pretend to themselves that they are in control of events where perhaps they are not. And it is always one's stance upon uncertain ground that invites the attention of one's enemies. or discourages it.

The car cranks and everything like normal, when the car is not starting. battery was tested at Autozone last night everything was good, and the starter turns like normal with no problems. When I pulled the spark plug when it wasnt starting i could not get spark, after the car warmed up and I ran it for a while I took the plugs out and I would get spark, and the car would start right up.
My thoughts are 1 of 2 things now. first, coil in the distributor? I never had any probelms with this type of distributor so I have never really looked into it. It is just my understanding that there is something in the coils that could cause them to short out, but it is only happening when it is cold. second would be the alternator. When the car does not want to start and I finally push start the car the alternator squeels first I thought it was the belt, so i replaced the belt, same as before. As I watch the gauge on the dash it is real low and when it stops squealing the meter goes to about the l on "normal" could this be drawing enough power or taking power away from the distributor to power the plugs. OK maybe a third now, there is a relay for ignition main in my fuse box, when I pull it out everythhing still turns over but the car does not start, could that relay be the problem. I think it is f118m or f1184m something like that. |

I figured out what the problem was and i figured out that i would post just in case someone else ran into this. I saw it in the search a couple of times, but the sensor that runs behind the alt belt down by the dipstick was the problem. I wiggled it just checking for loose connections, and it started right up. I then unhoked it, same symptoms from before. I am finally going to get to fix it this weekend, and i cant wait, to much work push strarting this thing all the time.

i've had to patch the wires to it once due to them actually breaking on me. since switching to a ZE, the wires are nicely tucked and don't get in the way. |
