Best way to clean intake mani? Rust!

Aight, got a new engine today and was planning to put it in tomorrow. The thing is absolutly beautiful, clean all around, and everything was going great until I opened up and looked into the intake mani. The thing is covered in a thin layer of rust. Now I'm guessing it would be suicide to install/try to start the engine with rust in there. So, I'm guessing a bath is in order, do i take it to a shop and ask for an "acid" bath? Or how do I approach this?

They are made fom cast aluminum.
Aluminum doesnt rust...

Its most likely carbon build up.. some degrease/oven cleaner usually cleans it decent.

Use a scraper to remove the thick stuff, and garden hose it out...

I hope so. Because it's not black like carbon buildup, it's reddish orange like rust. I'll see when I get it of tomorrow

It probably is just carbon. Try some carburettor cleaner and go mad!

intake mani?

i have to agree, if you're talking about the intake manifold and not a cold air intake, it won't rust. aluminum doesn't oxidize in that fashion.

I say you take some rags and feed one end through the IM neck and see if you can grab it through the runners, then just pull it back and forth to clean out the inside

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The man who had nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety is a miserable creature, and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." -John Stuart Mill

Aight, so this is all carbon buildup. I'll wash it out tomorrow.

Yep try and take a bucket or something large enough to submerge your intake mani into a diluted mix of Simple green, let it sit for awhile occasionally stirring everything up to get a small flow going and 90% of the [shizzle] in there will come out on its own.

Ive never heard that ever, We use it for the paint guns at work.. and it works beautifully, if you dont rinse it off after use Im pretty sure it wont eat at it, but it will promote aluminum oxidation much faster

My engine is apparently a fs, so with it lacking some of the connectors, I'm going to mount my old intake mani on it.

I thought the fsze had a vris unit of some sort on top of the intake, idk. All I know is this one's labled a fs. Engine is a FE2 A. Not sure the difference between the FE2 A and B, anyone? I searched but came up empty.
It's basically this engine right here, I bought mine off the same seller.

I used carb cleaner and it works great. Spray it in let it sit and scrub where you can.
