KL-DE Exhaust Back Pressure

I'm really wanting a straight pipe exhaust for my car. I've searched around for a definitive answer to what size pipe I should use, some have said 3", some said 2.5", and so on.
I apologize if this is in the wrong section, but what sized piping should I use? I really don't want to buy everything and make it to find that there's too little back pressure and it affects power severely. I don't mind a little power drop, so long as it doesn't damage anything in the engine or has a big power drop.
The engine is a KL-DE.

Thanks.

If I can read correctly though, it depends what your tuning for. A larger pipe will increase HP & torque, but it you go over board it'll create less of a scavenging effect to create a vacuum, but will see the power band raise up into the higher RPM, but with a little more, you'll feel it in lower RPM.

agreed with ScubaSteve, these engines love a 2.5". I'm running hollowcat at the moment and that seems to help a lot too. of course, i did this because my cat was broken and i didn't have the $$$ to do anything about replacing it. Headers+2.5"+high-flow or no cat =
