auto tranny stays in 2nd gear

I just had a replacement used one installed. It won't shift past 2nd gear.

Is this more likely a solenoid issue, or hooked up incorrectly, rather than something wrong with the transmission ?

What is the best way to diagnose this ? Just take it to a Mazda dealer for
a check up ?

If anyone can advise a particular thread on here, please let me know.

Thanks but that is not what I am looking to do. I did get a KLZE engine though - by mistake. I ordered a KLDE, they said they were shipping a KLDE - but it is a KLZE that arrived. I have to change out the intake manifold because I still need egr to
pass emissions.

Also guess I have to research to find out how or if the VRIS shift points can be corrected to the KLZE engine.

On the auto transmission, some research says this could be the variable speed sensor. I couldn't get any code to flash on the hold light when I jumped the TAT and GND for auto transmission codes.

It's a throwaway part I can replace for $ 123
