Camshaft Timing Marks
The manual says to line up the timing marks on the camshaft when re-installing them, and shows a picture of the front bank (V6) with the centerline of each shaft and the two timing marks all in a straight line. However, on the rear bank, there is a cover plate of some kind covering the point where the gears mesh. My rear bank is currently set so that when the timing marks on the camshaft pulley are set to TDC, the marks on the gears (inside the valve cover) are just lined up with the side of the coverplate (not meshed together), which is kind f an 'in-between' position of the cam, rather than one of the every 120° positions it 'snaps' to. Is this correct?
