I went to go replace mine today, however the ones under my gearstick were just fine. It's actually the bushings near my transmission that need to be replaced, another weekend job. If the bushings are in there tight and look to be doing their job, DONT TRY TO RIP THEM OUT. That will just cause a lot more problems than it's worth!

man it's simple. put the car on a hoyst or if you dont have one as high as you can on ramps etc.
and just undo the 1 bolt under the gear nob, and replace the two plastic ends, with new ones,(or push with a screw driver whatever is left of the old ones out) that's it. i did it without removing the exaust shield just flex it when puting the 10mm in there(but it's easier without it ofcourse) don't lube nothing. (and don't over tighten , will be hard to move the gearstik after) (from own experience). ![]() The End hope jasonius (buddy) dosn't get cranky for barging in,(fix the pix bro) |

I personally was not able to get the plastic seals out of it, which tells me they are still good and tight. Even with a screwdriver, needlenose pliers, nothing.

Pics have been unavailable because Caleb's uploader has been down (Uploading Images.). The thumbnails are back (thanks Caleb), but the bigger pics are now available as well for those who wanted them. I'll edit out once Jase's updated the main post:

different bushings (apparently)
Hello all,
I'm a first time poster, and I figured I would share my experience with changing my bushings. After I realized I needed to change the bushings I searched the forum for help. Then found this thread. (Which is awesome by the way.) So I ordered my parts (46-062A) and set out on the weekend to change them. After a bit of frustration, I got the old ones off. BUT the old ones were much larger than the new ones I got. And after trying every which way, i decided that the new ones were NOT the right ones cause they don't fit at ALL. (Not even a little bit.) They are way tooo small. So I called both Mazda dealers in town, and both were closed. So then I thought I would try the ford dealer (since the probes are damn near the same), well the guy on the phone said he had the right ones. So I drove in (with my Trans AM, which is currenlty illegal, but the only car I had left to drive!), and got to ford. The parts guy gave me the bushings, and they are the same ones I got from Mazda! SO I did have the right ones, but they still don't fit. So now I'm lost! I don't know why the correct bushings aren't fitting, and I'm pretty sure all the shift linkage is stock (at least it looks like it), so I don't understand. So now I put what was left of the old bushings back on, now my sloppiness in my shifter is even worse!! But I can find the gears fine, so I'm gunna try and go to mazda on monday and see what they can do. Has anybody had a problem like this? (I was thinking of putting in a short through shifter just to bypass all these damn bushings.... but that's a lot more money just to by pass a 4 dollar bushing!) -frustrated and out of ideas. P.s. my car is a 95 mx-6 with a 4 cyc, and 5 speed manual. |
