Problems with ZE in 97'?

Ok, can someone tell me what I would need to do to put a ZE in my 97' LS. I have been searching and don't know where to look anymore. I know theres a few people I have seen that did it but I don't remember who.

I remember reading many different things. Had someone say you had to run MS with it, someone said you had to put a bigger fuel pump. But I dunno whats true.

Also, since its got the extra emissions and vac. lines will that screw with the ZE? Get me some info guys. I've been thinking about turbo but it seems like it will cost me so much $ and then not even as reliable as a ze, I think the ZE might be a better choice for a DD for me.

Think I could do 225hp with a ze and boltons? Dunno. I already have pacesetter headers, greddy sp2 catback, CAI, lightened flywheel, stage 2 clutch, PU motor mounts, think thats it. What else would I need. Thanks.

Both. Since you have most of the boltons already, all you would have to do is get a good MS going and you should be fine..

If you have emissions laws in your state, it will be a problem to pass inspection if you go ZE. If im not mistaken its because the ZE does not have an EGR valve which helps the exhaust gases not kill the environment. If no emissions laws, I would disregard it and slap that ZE in there!

No, forget it. With all the boltons I have, the last time I dynoed @ 178whp, I've tuned the car since then, so it may be a little more.... you can squeeze a lil more out of it with proper tweaking of the MS or possibly using an AFC. I hope this helps you out. I'm not the ZE genius, but I try to give my input when I can.

kool, thanks. But do I have to put MS on if I do a ze?

No emissions in my area in pa, so no problem there

Ok, Well I was thinking the ZE is said to be 200hp(not whp) and then add the bolt ons I dunno how much it could/would be.

Another question. How much would I be looking at to BUY the parts. I see people say $600 for the motor, then I see people say $1k for it. Anyone tell me a real price?

its 200hp @ the crank.. and you lose a % of the hp numbers through the transmission. Yes, you will need the MS to run in a 97 because of the OBDII ecu that you are currently running. plus with MS you can tune your ECU yourself, versus the E.l Proto chip I have which cannot be altered unless I send it off.. I use a S-AFC to tune mine since i have the aftermarket chip.. I'm looking into possibly getting the MS so that I can squeeze a little more power on my N/A setup.... (boost is coming soon!...shhhh...)

yea, I know its 200 at the crank, but what I am saying is there a way to get 250 crank power. I dunno what kinda crank gains you get from boltons.

Man, I dunno ANYTHING about MS. hmmm.

Nope, sorry my friend.. the only way to get those #'s is with boost or nitrous.

185whp max is what u may get from a n/a setup.. if you lucky.

about 15%... u will always have more HP @ the crank than u do @ the wheels. it is possible to get 250 @ the crank with a 75 shot of nitrous. If you gonna do that, You might as well slap a turbo kit on it.. I know there are a few members on here that put down some sick #'s with a turbo ZE.. Radar, FastestPGT, Stealh(whenever he dynoes) and other members (can't think of any any one in particular cuz I'm super bad with remembering names... all the time)...

yea, I know theres always more power at the crank than to the wheels. And no nitrious for me, I don't want to blow my motor or spend so much $ on refilling it. If I was going racing 1/4 maybe, but I just want this to be a quick/fast DD. Also, I think I would just boost my DE if I was going to do a ZE since I would be about $1k ahead of the game. lol

True.. ZE with boltons is the best way to go for a DD.. with all the mods i have, i commuted 180 miles a day on my ZE and the [fizzle]er still pulls strong.. The ball is in your court dude... Smart choice on the nitrous.. I'm stayin far away from that [shizzle] myself. lol

Well, depends on mileage, compression accross all cylinders, any leaks.. numerous factors play in the price.. i've seen them range from 650-1800 or so.
