You just got probably a newer version of a KLZE or equally likely an older version. Not all years the engines were built the same. It could have also come from another KL powered car designed for a different consumer. For example a sedan would have the need for a different engine setup with different power band than a sports car. My current engine is from a japanese Millenia, it came with 03 cams and round head ports. I got it from the same guy I and my friends have bought at least a total of 12 engines from. The weirdest one being a true ZE with a Ford valve cover.

Or he got a DE with a ZE manifold. Take it back.

It's been installed in two different cars since April 2006...I'm doubtful they'll take it back.

But I do plan on coercing them to give me ZE heads and cams at no charge though. I don't trust them to do any work on it anymore, plus this'll be a learning opportunity for me if I do it myself

So the for sure ZE parts are the block, TB, and IM? And the head/cams are the only thing that isn't?

ZE and DE blocks are the same, the only difference is the pistons. How sure are you that you have ZE pistons? Do a compression test and post back. It would surprise the hell out of me that they would go through all that trouble to change the heads, when it's a lot easier to just replace the IM.

He said they were flat... aren't DE pistons more of a dished shape?

Trust me nobody changed anything, it came that way from whatever car it was removed from in whichever country it was imported from.

you have to look to see if the ports on the heads are a square shape.....mazda didnt put the oval port heads on the klze intake...everrrrrrr....but the cams may be DE cams and that would be cool....they are built better than the ZE ones anyway.... now turbo that bitch

never fear the unknown for it will stay unknown forever.96 klze widebody, to much to list....boost in the works

i think he means lobes - the round shapes that are on the camshaft. different shapes give different lift, duration, etc...

Thanks for the help guys, however now I'm a little confused about what to do. Seems to be a mixed opinion of whether with the heads/cams it's a ZE or not, so...

Should I be looking for KL31 cams and KL31 heads and do all the work? Or not?
