Autozone

So I was in autozone earlier today and I saw that they had the parts to make a cold air intake (among other things), basically what I want to know is if I did that would I have a decent cold air intake? Also, are their other parts high quality.. the only reason I'm a little bit leary is because it's a chain store. Thanks

Tl;Dr

Are Autozone parts high quality?

It's going to be identical to the $200 Hot Shot intakes if you buy the right pieces and shape it right. The Big Key is buying a QUALITY filter. The Ebay junk filters aren't that good.

I wouldn't go as far as saying the quality is the same as a Hotshot. I know I might be biased since I have one, but I've also had the crap ebay one. The Hotshot is made of good quality SS, while the crap ebay one is made of some super thin pot metal that gets cloudy after three drives.

Agreed on the filter though. The quality difference between a true K&N and whatever the hell they give you with your ebay one is a big one.

I'd personally rather have a K&N. Those are designed to be cleaned with the recharge kit so I know nothing will happen when I clean it. After a lot of miles, I wouldn't be as confident if a knock off would start disintegrating itself.

Before my bro sold his GSX, he baught a bunch of that make your own intake crap from auto zone. He gotta maf translator wich required smaller intake tubes.

Basically, That whole DIY intake crap is all plastic. And its cheap. Dont waist time or money, the intakes you can get on ebay are cheap enough.

That plastic intake stuff isnt higher quality. PCV is alot stronger, and will resist more heat. Not to mention it wont melt if to close to something that gives off alot of heat.

The stock intake is plastic. Going with an aluminum or steel tubing would gather way more heat to the incoming air. That's why I really wish the KL's manifold wasn't aluminum.

True, it's not going to be as durable as PVC, but honestly ... how many times has a correctly installed intake ever melted on a hot pipe. Probably never.

I'm not trying to argue or prove anyone wrong, just saying from personal experience they've worked great for me. here's what i did with the Autozone Pieces to run an air from my turbo. Not pretty but works.

thanks for the tip on the PVC, but I think I'd rather stick with a metal of somekind and then maybe heat wrap it or something..

ok, I have another question... I have a cf hood so I don't have the windshield washer nubs anymore... anyway. Does the length of the intake tubing matter because I'd like to take out the washer fluid resevoir and run the intake down through there to just behind the bumper. Basically would I be choking the engine or would it work ok?
