usually people say test pipes only can net up to 1hp better than a high flow cat

Under construction for a bit

Personally the cat would be my choice, test pipes are usually fabed in someone backyard. also in my opinion the NOISE testpipes make bring honda civic to mind in my experience.

My vote is for a high flow cat. With a testpipe, you're going to get the smell of rotten eggs, which doesn't sound too pleasant to me.

Only if you put eggs in your exhaust will you get that smell.

If you want quiet, stop reading now. Otherwise, go with the test pipe and a good resonator like a Magnaflow in place of your muffler. Run 2.5" pipe from your headers/exhaust manifolds all the way also. This set up does not sound like a Honda, no way in hell I'd let my car sound like a sewing machine on crack. Check my exhaust clip in the sticky, near the bottom of page 7.

ty vm , but 2old , since we dont have to pass emissions testing here in FL have you ever had a problem? and are they hard to distinguish from a regular high flow CAT? Price wise I'm ASSUMING that the test pipe will be cheaper... RIGHT?

I have ebay headers and an ebay exhaust ran straight pipe front to back. When I drive under an overpass it sounds like a cross between two prop planes and a Indy car. Gets my blood flowing every time. I love it. But, its not so great if your trying to lay low.

I have had both, and they sounded similar to me, in my opinion its how much you wanna spend and if you want some fancy sticker.

then go for it. I had a muff shop run pipe for me for $100. they asked if i wanted a resonator, but i wanted to hear it first. sounded too good to change
your better off running pipe anyway. you wont have to worry about a leak in the flange at all

well if you can explain *Bleep* exactly is a test pipe does the muffler shop make it themselves. I know they Install it becasue well.. lets just say I know they do... I'm just tryingto figure out if its worth it if I have to pay 50 dollars more for 1 hp and making hte car ilegal its not worth it but from what my understanding is .. CATs since they are Brand named and such would be more expensive.. since we dont have emissions testing down here why not go with a test pipe I jsut want to get things straight from a reliable source .. you know the venders will always try and get you to buy the more expensive Item they can sell you .. I dont want to sound indecisive I'd like to go knowing whats right for me ..

well, legal wasnt ever a concern for me. I supose a high flow would help if you were pulled over. it still looks like a cat. All a high flow cat is is a test pipe with cat molding around it. if you buy one you will see what i mean.

Test Pipe! Contrary to what some of the tree huggers here say there is more power in running without one. Not like 20hp but I guarantee it is 5hp? It all adds up. By the way I forgot this one on your Exhaust Thread. Good mod. MO does not do a sniff but you have to have what appears to be cat to a inspector mechanic. It can be hollow. I however have a friend inspector mechanic........
