HELP moding (Got my a$$ handed to me!)

Following happened in Mexico:

Car:1994 Mazda MX6 2.0L DOHC

Yup I got beat by a freakin neon... I think he sprayed on me. From the get go I had him Launched out 1/2 a car on him end of 1st he was at my rear bumper, 2nd pulled another half a car. By the beginning of 3rd I had him by at least 1 and 1/2 car when I see his car coming up like nothing. By the end of 3rd I let off and he was 2 cars ahead of me... I know I said this was going to be my DD but... I've never had this many people try to race me. When I'm in my Trans Am everyone leaves me alone. So I think I will start modding this car to get revenge on the neon and to surprise the hell out of other people.

Plans:
I have an extra intake that I will port to match the gaskets.
Ebay headers... Port heads (exhaust ports) to match headers.
Ebay short throw sifter...
Ebay cold air intake
That's about all the mods I have found for this car any help where I can find more will be appreciated.

Also how big of a shot can this engine handle?

I have a TNT wet kit with 50,75,100,150 wet shot.

I doubt he was spraying or he would have really spanked you! There were two engines available for the Neon. The SOHC and DOHC 2.0L.

The DOHC Neon had 150HP @ only 2400lbs! (Even the SOHC had 131HP)

Compare that to your '94 MX6 w/ 118HP @ 2600lbs!

And then remember, there's actually a real aftermakert world for those Neons. Some people drop in the 2.4L (direct bolt-in) and there are plenty of other goodies he could have had installed.

As far as modifying your car ... porting your heads is alot of work unless you were needing to take it off already!

I suggest Cold Air Intake, Headers and Exhaust. Short throw shifter won't do [shizzle] for speed. Just feels 'nifty'. If you run nitrous ... it 'might' handle a 50 shot on the OEM fuel pump. Maybe 100 shot with a High-flow pump ... but it's your daily driver ... stick with 25-50.

Well I'll find something. I know the short throw sifter will not help speed, But will reduce time on shifting. And I really think he sprayed because I was pulling him 1st and 2nd, 3rd he pulled 3 1/2 cars like nothing... Thats just my opinion... About mods I will continue my search and will post anything helpful I find for us I4 people. To me nitrous will be the way for this car because I already have a kit.

Turbocharging those I4's are pretty easy using Protege parts too! I just recently got rid of my turbo V6(LS) but I was debating doing a turbo 4 cylinder. Lighter weight and an easy 200HP!

dont have an i4 but this should work just as it did for my v6. imo you've forgot 2 important upgrades. bored tb ( i think you i4 people have one for your car ) and a lighter fly wheel. this is what i would do. spend to 70 bucks for a good cold and and spend 25 bucks on a use throtle body that fits ur car and pay the 80 bucks for the bore and new butterfly plate. if you can find one that has been pre bored then even better. after the cai and bored tb pick up a used borla setup for about 250 -300. worth ever penny. then at your first excuse to get in that tranny buy and install a mx3 flywheel. the weight savings will kick up your acceleration. i have a 9lb fidanza flywheel and think it may be alittle rough for dd. the money you save on an used mx3 flywheel over the 9lb fidanza you can put towards a set of headers. with all these go mods you should probally upgrade your stopping with a nice set of brembo cross drilled rotors. that imo is the best bang for the buck.

70 cai
125 bore tb
275 used borla catback
50 used mx3 13lb flywheel
$520

is there a lighter flywheel for the i4 or is it light enough to not even bother?

Fidanza might make one but I have the 6 as well.

Lightening might work but I dont know how much weight can be safely removed.

The FS is it's own motor and not related to other mazda 4 bangers so I doubt
any other flywheel would fit.

I've seen Fidanza flywheels for sale for the 2.0L. I've seen the 2.5L flywheel which is 9lbs and the 2.0L is 7.5lbs. In fact there's one on eBay for a few hundred dollars.

Souping up a neon is like putting a bikini on a fat chick. Pointless and wrong.

I don't own a Neon and I think they look pretty gay, but they actually have a fairly extensive road racing history! They have a much larger aftermarket than our cars with a lot more research and development. There are numerous 10 second Neons and I only know of ONE Probe there!

I still say juice your car with a 50 shot and be done!
