In the 7 years I've owned a 6, I've never taken it into the red (in 4th), or ever needed to. Not to mention the 2krpm difference would only be at 8krpm, at 3k it would only be about 650rpm.

please tell me how you came up with 650rpm difference
STOCK gears when 5th is at 3500, 4th is at 4750, so a 1250 drop the only way you are going to get a 650 drop by only changing 5th would be to make 5th a lot shorter. A LOT. at 8k, if you read my post, the drop is 3500. NOT 2000. at 120km/h: if you want 5th to be 2800 then given that 4th = 4750 at 120..... that comes out as 2000 rpm. |

I was just going by your numbers, I must have misread.
Either way, my dad has a Cirrus, with a 2.5L v6 that puts out 160bhp. His car runs at 3krpm at 130km/h without a problem, and his is a slushbox auto. Do you honestly believe our cars (which I guarantee are lighter) would have a hard time pulling? |
