youd have better luck with a mazdaspeed protege. its been done.

I remember quaife (sp?) made one that you could even pick your gear ratios. It was cheap too, only around $18,000 iirc.

There are several drive gear ratio options. 4cyl and 6cyl have diff. ratios as does the Probe. Not sure about 626 or protege tranns but a complete list would be nice to see what can be mixed and matched. I'll see what I can dig up.

It's rather a mater of how much than if. However I think it's a waste of time. If you didn't want a gas killer why the [fizzle] did you buy a v6?

Mx-6

4 cyl:
1st = 3.307
2nd = 1.833
3rd = 1.310
4th = 1.030
5th = 0.795
f = 4.105

6 cyl:
1st = 3.307
2nd = 1.833
3rd = 1.233
4th = 0.914
5th = 0.717
f = 3.850

Probe

6cyl:
1st = 3.307
2nd = 1.833
3rd = 1.310
4th = 1.030
5th = 0.795
F = 4.388

2002 626 4cyl
1st = 3.31
2nd = 1.83
3rd = 1.23
4th = 0.91
5th = 0.76
f = 4.11

Mazda speed protege
1st = 3.307:1
2nd = 1.842:1
3rd = 1.310:1
4th = 0.970:1
5th = 0.755:1
F = 4.105:1

That list is wrong phranc, the mx6 (v6) has the same ratios as the probe (v6), except the final drive is 4.105 on the 6. You probably have the 4 banger and v6 mixed up.

No idea where you would get a 6 speed tranny for a KL that works in FWD format...

I'm looking at a clubman with KL and mx5 transmission and am choosing the 5speed mx5 over the 6 speed. Basically our engine doesnt need a 6 speed. Unless its an over OVER drive. 4th is 1.000 in our tranny, in most 6speeds 5th is 1.000 and 6th is about the same as our 5th (overdrive). The only thing that is really going to affect the speed down a highway is a custom cut 5th or a different final drive.

That's what I think most people are looking for, myself included.

I thought we had the same G series trans as the MSP. That's why we can buy the GTX 3rd and 5th gears and use them in our transmissions.

WTB- ZE Throttle Body w/ IAC Pm me if you have one!

It's getting there.

do you really need it though??

I quite comfortably get under 10L/100km (or more than 24miles/gallon) when cruising at 120km/h down undulating highways. Thats at about 3500 rpm the whole way.
Where would you like to sit?? If the answer is say 2500... then you are going to have to change back to 4th a reasonable amount. We just dont have the torque down there. If its 3000... then who cares? 500rpm aint worth the effort.

Its only cars with much more low down torque that can cruise highways at 2000rpm. Also those cars tend to top out a few thousand rpm less than ours... we have a high revving engine. The car was never designed to be a pure highway cruiser.
