hei mod ????????????

ok well first off i have done the hei mod successfully well...i did lose my tach in the process but that leads to my first question...when replacing the tach and i go for a after market one does it still require the resistor ....i plan on doing a custom cluster panel...anyways my second question is ive seen the write ups on the hei mod many of times...why does every one use the old coil that is round bottle looking, and not the performance coils that go with the hei's in the chevy distributor the smaller square ones before.. i run off and buy one..thanks for reading if u made it all the way threw...and thanks for any help
