What year is your car? Is it a V6 or I4?

The only ECU upgrade you can get for the V6 mx6 would be an aftermarket chip (I think Jet makes one) which doesn't do much more than change the fuel maps very slightly and remove the top speed limiter. Not worth the money in my opinion.

If you upgrade to the JDM KLZE motor you can upgrade to the JDM ECU to get the most out of the motor.

The other option would be to get a Megasquirt unit and replace/piggyback your stock ECU. People mostly use these units on cars with custom motors (like mine) or turbocharged cars. You will need to re-tune everything but the tuning potential is endless.

My car is going to be the bastard love child of a JDM, ESPEC, and USDM Mx6 threesome.

It's getting there.

The more important question, why do you feel you need to upgrade?

Also if u upgrade to a ZE, you can put a Probinater chip in your stock ECU. the chip is only $60, compared to at least $200 u will pay for a kl36 or kl31, plus the $50 you'll dish out for a JE50 VAF, if you want to run a complete JDM setup. The chip will give u the same things a kl36 would, as well as no governor, better a/f ratio, gets rid of annoying codes and still allows you to access codes easier than a kl36 does.

I wish i would have known this before i bought my kl36 and je50

Doesnt work like on the computer games bud, get an exhaust done or get a cold air intake from ebay, it will give you "More power!", an ECU upgrade will give you nothing but a headache wondering why you spent $600 on a piggy back chip for no result.

well in theory if you mod. your ECU (like my 04 Yamaha r6 with a Power Commmamder) and (my buddys Z28 with ECU mod only) made more power just mess with it, why doesn't work for MX6. I got about 15hp on my bike and my buddy 25hp in his Z28, my Wifes Explorer 10hp. So what up with the mx6. people doen't know how to tune the right way...

yes yes I know the faster the air comes in and the faster the air gets out the more power you get, but Intake and Exhaust is the only think you can do to the MX6 FS-DE 2.0

No you didnt get 25hp, no you didnt get 15hp. With turbo cars you a tune is useful if you are upping the boost, adding exhaust (standard bolt on stuff) and the factory ECU tune (not that it doesnt adjust it self, because it does) is too consertaive with the higher boost you can fix that.

What type of ecu/chip are you using. Im guessing this power commander is a piggy back chip? Who did the install/tuning for you? Often you will find that the tuner will say yer 150hp before I touched it, here is the sheet, and then 175hp after I tuned it your $800 was well spent. Especially with the dynos you guys over their use. Crazy hp numbers, yet such average 1/4 traps. No tuner is better then factory OEM. When you do so much that you go further then what the ECU/car was designed for, different compression, cam etc (this is assuming you are staying NA) then a piggy back/standalone will help.

Sorry to dissapoint, but a tune is not worth the money on a more or less stock car. It isnt even worth the headache of getting it done, even if it was for free. It doesnt work like on NFS underground, there is no spend $800 and go faster "chip".

The Z28 was dyno and ran a the 1/4, went from a 13.8 to a 12.9 and my R6, I installed it and tuned it get the little R6 in 7.000 in the 1/8 mile and 10.750 in the 1/4 mile. Getting about 140hp out of my bike from the 125 the stock 04 R6 have. (with Full Exhaust and Intake with Stackes)

With OBD II 96 and up you will get Zero gain with anything you bolt on as well. It will Adjust or detune itself. Earlier cars do respond to opening it up. Good questions about why there is no chips for these cars. Maybe they are just tuned from the get go well and the chip guys just could not get much more? I mean what car for 93-95 do you know of that would turn 7000+ rpm daily? Hey the good thing is that you can get KLZE's for 850.00 to your door not the like Hondas and such for 1500.00 up . This adds 35hp in a V6. You have either go Nitrous or spend allot more in bolt ons to get to the stock power of a KLZE. The KLZE with bolt on's and it low weight makes for a fast car. I have stuck to the bumper of a new 05+ Mustang GT V8 from a launch through 4th and he was not ever pulling adn in fact I almost felt like I had to pedal mine some. I have outrun 2 S2000 Hondas too from a Launch and the Highway. Before you give up on them they are great blend of handling and ride quality in DE form but the KLZE makes it a true performance car.

93 LS- KLZE, Underdrive pulley, SS Autochrome Headers, CAI, R-R Poly mount inserts, Probinator ECU mod, Test Pipe, Dodge Stratus R/T 17"wheels.

Toy: 64 VW bug, Building a 2017cc Stroker motor. Should be low 14 second car.

13.8 to 12.9 with 25hp more!!!??

What are stackes. If you think a full exhaust and intake is good (which it is) why wont you do it to the mx6? There are better ways to spend the chip money. How much did you freind get his z28 chipped and tuned? Either way staying Naturally aspirated and spending any decent amount of money with the 2.0L mx6 is kinda like pissing in the wind. You could spend $3000 on bolt ons and some "chip" and go from running a 16.5 to a 16.49999999
