car bucking...help please!!

It's been a while since I've posted on here, and miss the community, lol...

I've been searching lots of things on the internet in addition to this site to work out the kinks of my mxer to eventually get my project on the way...

alright, here it goes...1996 V-6 M-edition, 5 speed...124k miles...

I bought the car and it seemed fine, engine runs very smooth, did the gear oil, engine oil, etc...timing belt appears to be done, and there doesn't appear to be any problem with the car's timing as it ran just fine and actually GREAT for a while...

eventually I got a check engine light, cylinder 4 misfire...after a lot of headaches, I got that problem solved....I have a new distributor, new plugs (gapped), wires....none of that was causing the misfire, but after I removed the fuel rails and pulled the electrical connectors, one of the little tabs was corroted, so swapped out that piece and cyl. 4 injector and it appears it was a fuel problem so that took care of the misfire...no more CEL light...it went right out after a short drive...

just when I felt so much relief for finally getting rid of this misfire, its seems I now have a much WORSE problem...the car is bucking BADLY when driving...almost as if it's going to fall apart...so bad, you can't even really drive it...

it does it after the car gets warm, and the engine seems to be getting hotter than normal. The temp gauge doesn't really get too high, and I've done a few coolant flushes, etc...but it seems it's drawing excessive heat from the engine...

This bucking DOES NOT make the check engine light stay on, however every time the car does it- the light blinks really quickly (not a steady flash)...the car doesn't seem to have many problems at idle, but pressing the gas slightly between 1-2k rpm seems to do it...no matter what gear or speed...

I will say before I changed out the spark plugs, since I was ditching the old ones, I did a seafoam treatment of the piston heads (pouring a small amount into the spark plug wells before re-installing the old plugs)...and it worked great blowing a lot of carbon and smoke out of the exhasut...installed the new wires, plugs, and the fuel system problem took care of the misfire...I'm wondering if I roasted O2 sensors or clogged the cat, causing a back-up of exhaust gases causing this kind of rapid bucking...

Any suggestions? I am planning on replacing the fuel filter...I don't think that would be a fix for such a serious problem, but I'm not an expert on these things....EGR related?? I used my buddy's scanner for the misfire and gave it back to him, and i'm not sure if it would pull codes even though the CEL does not stay illuminated for this type of problem (??)...all I know is that it is REALLY bad, lol....I'm about ready to just buy a new cat, exhaust, etc...since I will be anyways, but I really want to know what's causing this excessive HEAT and sporatic tach and engine bucking...it seems really LEAN or that it has pre-ignition, etc....but the thing that make the most sense to me would be the CAT...however, wouldn't that trigger a CEL code and remain lit? such as other sensors would do...?

basically, since the CEL does NOT stay on, I'm thinking it's a type of problem that isn't SPECIFIC to an OBD 2 code....like backed up exhaust ?

experts, please help!! THANKS...

Did you ever get an answer to this? I have a '95 MX6 I4 and a very similar problem started the other day. The are so many places to start... I check the plugs (Iridium) and they show nothing. They are burning great a nice even light brown. the resistance of the wires was also good, well on the 15K ohm scale they were but on the next lower scale the readings were high so that is confusing. The rotor and cap also look good. And then there is fuel filter, injectors, etc. I gave the car a complete tune up 14 months ago (11,000 miles). Could the wires have failed so soon I do drive quite fast.

It could be your throttle position sensor. i had this issue of it bucking when i slapped my millenia TB on.
if you rev it up to where it "bucks" does the RPM's bounce up and down?
if it does, put the car into diagnosis mode, turn the idle air screw to about 1200 rpm's, loosen the Throttle position sensor, wiggle it to where the fans turn on. When their on continue to move it until they shut off, then tighten it down.

i HIGHLY doubt this is your problem. because if the motor has never been messed with then there is no way this is your problem
