fuel pumps....

Alright gentlemen, my car has been cutting out on occasion and if i go full throttle after cruising between 3k and 3250, and my gas is below 1/4 it cuts/ stutters. I am thinking this is the fuel pump going out or strainer getting clogged.

It make no sense for me to pull the tank and not put in a new pump, in my mind. cap rotor and plugs have less than 10k on them and when i replaced them in the past it didnt seem to help. The car has 150k miles and i try to never run it below 1/8 of a tank and in two years have only seen the gas light once and that was when i bought it. Modifications can be found in my signature or on my build thread.

My question is what a decent fuel pump to get and I eventually want to boost. I was looking at 255lph hp fuel pumps and was thinking of going with this one: 255LPH in Tank Electric Fuel Pump High Performance Install Parts Set No 3 B | eBay

I know not all fuel pumps are created equal but does anyone have any suggestions? I want to spend less than $75 shipped with strainer kit. And since I plan to boost would prefer to only do this once rather than now and later.

I am starting to get a laundry list of stuff done to my car. Does that make it fast? No! Does that mean i spent too much money on a toy? Maybe. Do i have fun every time i jump in my car and drive? Hell yes.

I have to agree with Zach. I also wouldnt trust anything less then a Walbro pump, If not just use a higher flowing OEM pump off another type of vehicle.

There's been reports of lots of Walbro fakes on ebay. I wouldn't trust it. I think I got mine from a mustang online shop, just looked it up for the ford probe.

my Walbro's have all had there logo stamped into the metal casing. If you get a fake, paypal dispute that shit, get your money back. and enjoy a free no name pump as a back up in the future.

And does my diagnosis sound right? I'd hate it to be a ditty going out but to me if it's been intermittent for more then 8k miles and unaffected by changing plugs cap and rotor it seems like it should be the fuel system.

It defenitly sounds like it could be the culprit. If you wanted to cover your bases, T in a fuel pressure gauge and just sit in on the cowling and go for a drive.

We just did pile of rd1's pump. on his we noticed the pump itself wasnt as loud as other GD's, and alot of times he had to crank the shit out of his car before it would start. Those were really the only warning signs though for him. tossed in a walbro 255 and hasnt had an issue since, and picked up a ton of power.
