You can run a ZE on any DE ECU.. any year, OBD-I or OBD-II (though OBD-II isn't as straight of a swap as you have to swap a couple sensors).
As for power loss.. I'll agree with Ryan's estimation of 15-20 CRANK horsepower.. ~10-15 WHEEL horsepower.
I have a ZE in my 98 millenia, due to it needing to stay obdii for emissions purposes I have to keep my us ecu, so my question is how much of that 10-15 whp can i expect to get back with an AFPR?

An AFPR will help you fix the lean condition caused by a DE ECU and ZE engine. Power gains are marginal if any at all.
Your best performance gain would be had by adjusting your VRIS points with either MSD Window Switches, VRIS Controller (rare), or hooking a MegaSquirt up to control them (while leaving your stock OBD-II ECU in place and functional for emissions).
oops sorryr I wasn't clear, I kept my Millenia IM cause it is essentially a ze(or at least flows like one) so vris isn't an issue it is just the lean condition I am trying to fix, with this new info do you still think the gains will be minor??
True, my fault I read that but forgot about your square port ZE-like IM.
I think gains will still be minor. But since your ECU is tuned for the higher airflow of the ZE IM already, it wouldn't surprise me if you were only a hair on the lean side which wouldn't really hurt things in the long run.
Is it possible for you to get on a dyno and check your A/F mix? You do run Premium gas, correct?
I have been to the dyno a/f ratio is about 13.5 at higher rpms, and up to 15 at the lower end, consitantly at 4500 rpm the knocking starts and stays all the way until it shifts at 6500, which tells me the ecu is retarding timing as much as possible and still not able to make up for the lean condition. And yes I am using premium fuel.
hey, what headgasket do i need to get to mate the ze heads to my 03 block?? also what IM gasket do i need to mate the IM to the ze heads?? i was hearing something about millenia gaskets, but im not sure on that. please let me know. im lookin to do my ze hybrid swap next month, im waiting on all my ze top half stuff to come in now.
Hey everybody I was just wondering if you all could tell me
A: What the redline is on the KLZE, I thought it was 7k like the KL03 but am not sure
B: Does the KLZE have a speed govenor on it?
Hey everybody, I have one more question and this might sound stupid, but what does VAF stand for, I have seen people saying that they recommend getting a jspec VAF along with the new ecu but I have no idea what it stands for. Thanks
But this is NOT the place to ask a question like that, PLEASE keep this thread uncluttered with random, unrelated questions. DO a search, it is listed many places...
Alrite, this was a reply when someone asked if a KLZE can be turbo'd....
Yeah, you can, but it might not be worth the $$$.
the ZE has a higher compression ratio than the 03. But the connecting rods are just as soft. So running high boost, or a large nitrous shot will be likely to age the engine fast... or blow it up.
If you rebuild the bottom end, or stack up head gaskets, you might be able to run higher pressure, but probably a safe boost on a ZE is between 2 and 4 pounds.
Now my question is would I have the same result if I put a turbo in my MX6 which doesnt have the KLZE?
I also wanted to know if my stock engine is referred to as KLDE because it just says 24 Valve DOHC V6 on it.
