How To:Gauge Led Lighting

This "How To" will cover the information needed to make you own LED lighting for gauges.

*Warning*I am not responsible for anything caused by using this "How to" .This "How To" will go through the basic steps of installing LEDs and wiring and you should still use caution when working with any electrical system.

Thing Needed:

Led's (best place to buy www.modsthatglow.com)
Resistors(If bought from www.modsthatglow.com they come free with the order)
Soldering Iron (20w but no more than 30w when wroking with Led's)
Wire
Shrink Tubing (Also sold at www.modsthatglow.com)

I personally own the Sunpro Oil Psi gauge and VCO water temp gauge and they both came with a dim 12v light so i starter by ordering 10 Led's I used blue for my project.

Step one:
Take your Led and solder a resistor to the +side which will be the longer stem side.

Step two:
Solder your wires to the Led on the neg side and one to the resistor on the other.

Step three:
Use 1/16" Shrink wrap and use it on each side of the led prongs to cover the open wire.

Step four:
Now do this to as many Led's as your project will need.After you are done if you are using them for gauges like me I used a little larger size shrink wrap and wrapped four led's together.Then I took and at the end i stripped each wire ,but i stripped on a little longer than the rest and i wrapped all the wires to the longer one and then connected the longer one to my 12v power source and ground.

Step Five:
To install the leds into the gauge was a little difficult I removed the old 12v light and took and used a large size shrink wrap and slide the Led's into the tube that came off the back of the gague where the old light was and then shrink wrapped the wires into that tube.if positioned right they will glow out nicely.

If you were wondering where i ran the wiring for the leds to i ran them into the same wires that run to the emergency lights in the bumper.
